Anna Leigh Ashford

Annaleigh Amanda Ashford (born April 14, 1980) is an American performer, actor as well as a dancer. In her early Broadway performances, she starred her role in Wicked Legally Blonde Hair. As the character Essie as Essie in You Can't Take It With You she received the Tony Award. Annaleigh, Tony Award-winning actress as well as director, has spent the bulk of her career working with well-known directors and actors on stage and screen. Ashford is next seen opposite Kumail Nannjiani in Robert Siegel's Hulu Limited Series Welcome to Chippendales premiering November 22. Ashford is currently working for Searchlight Pictures' horror thriller Dust with Sarah Paulson and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The film will be available through Disney's DTC platforms and will be available as a Hulu Original. Ashford is scheduled to return to Broadway on March 20, 2023 with the role of Josh Groban opposite Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. The production is located at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Thomas Kail as director and Jeffrey Seller as producer will be the creative team for the musical. Ashford appeared as Paula Jones most recently in Ryan Murphy's American Crime Story Impeachment, which is based on the scandal that was involving Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky Linda Tripp during the national crisis. Two seasons ago, Ashford was the main character of CBS's hit series B Positive. It was developed by Marco Pennette and Chuck Lorre the series also starred legendary performers Linda Lavin Hector Elizondo and Ben Vereen.No new to Broadway Ashford was awarded the Tony Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her portrayal of Essie In You Can't Take It with You. The actress has also appeared on Broadway as a character in Sunday in the Park With George Wicked, Legally Blonde as well as the original character of Lauren as Lauren in Kinky Boots for which she received a nomination for an Tony Award. She was born and grew up in Denver Ashford now splits the time in Los Angeles and New York.
